When I was 16 (about 42 years ago), I went on an information diet by cutting out TV and newspapers for a year. Media was too much for me even then, but no one was talking about ADD (because it hadn’t been invented yet!).

Today, the information is so far off the charts, the whole world is ADD, and its a wonder anyone gets ANYTHING done! Putting on the blinders is so hard because you feel like you’re missing out on things. You’re not. I went to Sri Lanka for 5 months in the 80′s and never missed a thing!

Thanks for the insights Kris, and lots of best wishes to you, my friend.

This is probably one of the most useful bits of info I have ever seen! I have been struggling to complete my main project for all these reasons. I’m now getting diverted by unsubscribing form virtually every list I’m signed up for. This will help though instread of getting in the way!

Good advice Kris. Thanks

Kris,

The volume on this vid is just too low. I have it set to max on the player and on my laptop, and still can’t hear enough of it to even understand what you are saying. Can you crank it up a bit in the future? Mostly I don’t have this problem with other IMer’s videos, but this one is just too low.

Thanks!

I hear you on unsubscribing from lists! I already unsubscribed to some – it really was just too much. You’re still in, though. :-) The email suggestion is interesting. Just the thought can be frightening to be honest, but I guess I’ll try it for a couple of days.

Good advice for all of us to follow. Thanks for taking the time to remind us.

I’m going to have to go through all my emails and unsubscribe to a lot of newsletters instead of deleting them.
Good reminder Kris. I’m glad I watched your video.

Hi Kris
Thankyou for posting Hacking Information Overload, It is by far the best information that i have read.
I am very new to internet marketing and now realise that I have wasted so much time with information overload.
I will take all of your information on board and opt out of most of my other list’s.
Thanks again.
David.

This is one of the best website ever. Thank you for posting very useful information that can help one move forward.

Colleen April 13, 2010 at 12:00 AM

Kris,
This is the best advice I have ever gotten since I tried to get in the internet business. OVERLOAD! This is sooooo true. It is very easy to get so eager to make a few bucks that we all get into buyer fever on products and how to’s. I have spent literally hours unsubscribing to emails. I hope everyone gets a chance to listen to this video and takes it to heart. Colleen Grammy B

G’day Kris,
Yes, this is exactly what is happening to me. My thirst for knowledge on the subject of Internet Marketing seels to have no bounds. The result is that I am buying all the systems I can afford and yet not following through with any of them. Starting today I am going to reduce my subscriptions (and I have many of them) to a just a few. Of course I’ll stay with you Kris :-)

After I’ve reduced my subscriptions I am going to pick one of the systems I bought and follow it through.

Thanks,
Ray.

What you said about reading emails is so true… it’s a total distraction from getting any work done.
I currently get almost 200 emails a days, everyday. It becomes a job just trying to figure out
which ones to delete. Even after deleting 95% of them without reading them, you’re still left with a
dozen a day (which you plan on reading).

What happens is that those dozen start to add up when you miss a day.
Next thing you know, you have a couple hundred emails that you were planning on reading,
but you could never get to. It becomes a vicious never-ending cycle.

Listen to Kris… Don’t do it!

Mike April 29, 2010 at 12:25 AM

Hi Kris,

Probably during the past month I have been realizing more and more that I am doing exactly what you have outlined above and more to the point what everybody else has been doing. It’s amazing how we just need someone like yourself to come out and confirm that for us.

Having said that I have some very good information that I have now compiled together and am on my way to cementing an Internet presence. I will however, be unsubscribing to many emails as there is a saturation of garbage out there that we newbies easily get sucked into the void. Take care Kris and keep up the good work.

To be completely honest I still subscribe to a lot of lists but not beucause I need the info the person is selling or giving away.In truth I know a lot about I.M. alrready. But I do like to see what the other marketers are doing and how they are doing it ( I get a lot of ideas from thier mailings) and I save the emails that have really good adcopy in a file that I can go back to later to use as a basis for my emails. Some of those emails have really compelling adcopy and I can just can rewrite it to fit my mailing needs.

Thank you very much for that great article

Hey Kris, great stuff and a topic that needs way more coverage. I am a candidate for I.O. as we speak.
I did a media fast in 1992 but only for 68 days and I noticed a number of things change, and being more aware was one of them. The news still was news but in order to get it I had to listen to a human, and at his or hers discretion and interpretation. I found I was much more social and got more done in a day and the world didn’t cave in if I didn’t watch the six o’clock news. I’ve started checking my e-mail in the afternoon instead of the morning unless I’m expecting something and that has had an incredible positive effect on my productivity. I have BSO syndrome as well and that gets stimulated by email opening also. If I had to do just one of the three I would do the email time cut and prune. Everyday I go through my email and unsubscribe for at least 10 min. and I can see the difference in three days. I can breath again!!
Thanks Kris, good timing.

Len.

Yes, I definitely find this video extremely useful to me. I used to get soo much email everyday on all topics in sales marketing. This video really let me re learned the fundaments of sticking to one project at the same time (to stay focus).

Thank You!

Hi Kris,
Really good points that I know but don’t follow enough ! You’re a smart young man!
Well put about those shiny WSO’s, I kept starting and stopping and spending and reviewing,
never starting anything !
Putting this advice into practice.
Thanks Man !

I would REALLY appreciate an answer to this, Kris . . .
do your comments & suggestions in this video mean that we can truly trust you to ONLY send us links to people & products that you seriously believe we SHOULD pay attention to? That would be nice to have a leader like that . . . even if he is only 18 yrs old. May you be unique in the industry, with the integrity that will cause folks to “take notice”.
The BEST to you, Kris.

You better believe it!

I respect and love all my subscribers!

Thanks Kris for sending me to this video and selling me on the Super Traffic Method.

After having a decent Xmas with Adwords, this spring I had made almost no money and quit on IM. But I kept subscribing to new lists and am on over 50 “gurus” lists. I have wasted the last two months being addicted to reading about new product after new product being launched, spending two hours a day reading emails & sales pages. (and I could not afford to buy any of them) My picture should be the poster for “paralysis analysis”!

I am setting up a new email for friends and family and turning off my noisy email account so I can focus on building my new website & email list. No more distractions! Bring on round two of my fight to build my online biz.
